Our practical course for experimental skills for third-year undergraduate students (every Friday) has begun.

Last Friday, we all took an training course on experimental animal experiments. Students will be doing any experiments using monkeys right away this week... but not yet. First, they will do some carpentry work! We will set up the experimental equipments. Japanese macaques are large, so the experimental equipment is also large. Creating an experimental environment is the first step in research. So, under the guidance of Master Shitara, they worked hard on the carpentry work.

First, we cut the iron pipe. This is to make a scaffold for installing the camera. Safety comes first. The Master carefully explains and demonstrates the safety precautions. After fully understanding them, they start the training strictly following the procedures. "Goanzenni" (Please be safe).

Here, she cut it. At first, she seemed hesitant, but... the sparks started flying and the sensation gradually turned into pleasure.

The cut was beautiful and the smile on his face was one of great satisfaction. Ours is probably the only lab that students can cut iron pipes in this faculty.

After that, they attached rubber feet to the wooden slats that will become the walkway. They then measured the dimensions with an L-square, drilled screw holes, and fastened the screws.

Although it was a somewhat suspicious atmosphere, They attached 16 rubber feet to each of the five slats, completing today's training. I'm glad there were no accidents. Thank you for your hard work.

Behind the training, the Master was slamming a drill into a concrete wall. As expected of the master, he is very skilled at what he does.

After completing the training, they felt like a real carpenter and thought, "Now I can build a house."

Next time, we will do a test run on the walking path we set up this time. Who will walk on it?

Please continue to stay safe.

After the practical training, we welcomed Adomi-san, D1 student, with Osaka soul food (Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba)!

By the time the undergraduate students returned to their rooms from their practical training, the first batch had already been cooked by Chief-Chef Nishimura and Chef Aritake-san. They are from Osaka region, the Okonomiyaki is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. High quality!! Two roughly chopped cabbages were neatly sunk into our stomach.

(The Chief, holding a spatula in one hand and a beer can in the other, said, "After coating the cabbage with a thin layer of batter, we cover it and steam it until it hardens. Once it becomes like a pancake it becomes heavy.")

The Yakisoba, fried noodles, prepared by Chef Aritake were also delicious!

Now, this might be out of the blue, but what do you think Adomi-san is holding in the photo?

The answer is...

It's a "diaper cake"! The white part you see under the "Anpan-man" character is diapers for newborns.

Adomi-san has given birth to a child!!

He may not have time to rest between research and work during the day and childcare and housework at night. Please make sure you take care of your health and continue your research at a reasonable pace. Good luck, graduate student dads!

(Once things have calmed down, please bring your kids to the drinking party.)

The next drinking party will be in May. We are planning a big event. Look forward to it!
