
Mr. Michihiro Yagami, a graduate student at the Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University, who is supervised by Professor Nishimura, won the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Mammalogical Society of Japan (September 6-9, 2024, University of Hyogo).
Using non-destructive virtual dissection technology using CT scans, we found that hylobatids have muscle and cartilage morphology that is different from that of other primates including humans. We suggested that it is adaptive for the song, a vocal behavior that is characteristic of this family.
